The next-gen Xcent will share its platform with the Grand i10 Nios

  • Upcoming Hyundai Xcent to share design cues like LED DRLs and cascading grille with the recently launched Grand i10 Nios.

  • It gets new dual-tone 15-inch alloy wheels and a repositioned number plate holder over the outgoing model.

  • It could get the same set of features as the Grand i10 Nios, including the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and more.

  • The Xcet will be equipped with BS6 compliant 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines.

  • Prices expected to range within the Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh bracket.

The next-gen Hyundai Xcent has been undergoing tests as we await its launch in early 2020. The recent set of spy shots reveal a few more design details of the upcoming sub-4m Hyundai sedan.

While the fascia has been camouflaged, it reveals just enough to show the cascading Hyundai grille flanked by boomerang LED DRLs and upswept headlamps similar to the Grand i10 Nios.

The side profile reveals a sharp dual-tone alloy wheel design, likely to be 15-inch units, and ORVMs with integrated indicators. Moving to the rear end where the visible elements reveal new C-shaped tail lamps with LED inserts (missing on Grand i10 Nios), a shark fin antenna and a repositioned number plate holder that moves down from the boot lid to the bumper.

The interiors are not visible in these images but are expected to be similar to its hatchback sibling. So, expect a similar dashboard layout with features such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, wireless charging, rear AC vents, and more.

Hyundai is expected to launch the next generation version of the small sedan with the 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines that power the Grand i10 Nios. Currently, only the petrol unit meets BS6 norms while the diesel will be upgraded in the coming months. However, both engines are likely to comply with the new norms by the time the 2020 Xcent goes on sale.

Both engines get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The optional AMT in the hatchback could be carried forward to the sub-4m sedan as well.

The next-gen Xcent will go on sale in early 2020 and Hyundai could keep the current-gen model on sale for fleet operators like the Maruti Dzire Tour. Its prices are likely to range from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh and will renew its rivalry with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire and VW Ameo. Currently, the Xcent is priced between Rs 5.81 lakh and Rs 8.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
