The highlight of the Euro-spec facelift is the addition of a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with its 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine

After debuting it to the world at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo in February, Hyundai has now revealed the Euro-spec model of the second-gen i20 facelift (known as Elite i20 here). While the aesthetic changes are identical to the India-spec model, the Euro-spec car gets a new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Elite i20, on the other hand, is expected to get a CVT option soon in India with the 1.2-litre petrol engine.

The 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, on offer with the Euro-spec i20’s 1.0-litre T-GDi turbocharged petrol engine, is not available with the India-spec i20 as of now. This engine is available in two states of tune: 100PS and 120PS, while torque output is identical at 172Nm.

The 120PS version is only offered with a 6-speed manual, while the 100PS unit can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. The 1.4-litre diesel was removed from the i20’s powertrain options in late 2017 due to dwindling sales of diesel-powered cars in Europe.

Speaking of the India-spec model, instead of the dual-clutch auto, Hyundai is expected to introduce a CVT automatic option with the Elite i20 in the coming months to take on the Baleno and the Jazz that also offer a CVT option with their petrol engines.

Aesthetically, both the cars are similar, but the European model features new LED elements in its refreshed tail lamps, which are not offered here. In fact, the pre-facelift i20 also used to offer LED tail lamps in Europe, but Hyundai never offered them in India.

Besides this, the i20 facelift in Europe has also received Hyundai’s active driver assistance safety features, under its Smartsense label, like lane departure warning and lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, driver attention alert and high-beam assist. Unfortunately, Hyundai doesn’t offer these safety features on the Elite i20 in India as well.
