Kia India is getting ready to unveil its first three-row electric offering, the Carens Clavis EV. It's scheduled for a global debut and an India launch on July 15, 2025.
Ahead of its official unveiling, we’ve got an exclusive update: the Carens Clavis EV will be available only as a 7-seater. Here’s what we know:
Kia Carens Clavis EV Will Be A 7-Seater Only
Ahead of its scheduled launch, according to a tip-off from our sources, CarDekho can now exclusively confirm that the Carens Clavis EV will be offered only in a 7-seater configuration. This means there will be no captain seat-equipped 6-seater variants, at least upon launch. The three-row setup will be standard across all trims.
Kia Carens Clavis EV: Powertrain Details
Apart from the already known 51.4 kWh battery pack, which will offer a claimed range of 490 km (MIDC Part 1 + 2), there is speculation that Kia may also introduce a smaller 42 kWh battery pack in lower variants to cater to more cost-conscious buyers. If that happens, the range could drop to around 390-400 km, but it would help bring down the starting price.
Kia is yet to reveal details of the electric motor, but considering the size and segment of the Carens, it will feature a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup, with a power output expected to be in the 135-170 PS range. Official specifications are awaited.
Kia Carens Clavis EV: Exterior And Interior
Visually, the Carens Clavis EV won’t stray too far from the standard Carens MPV, but it will wear a distinct EV identity. We have already seen it in images and characteristics like a blanked-off grille with an integrated charging port, aero-friendly alloy wheels, and reworked LED DRLs and tail-lamps are clearly visible. A connected LED light bar at the front and rear is also visible.
Inside, the overall layout remains similar to the standard Carens Clavis, but with a few EV-specific touches. The EV will feature dual 12.3-inch connected screens, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a rotary gear selector, freeing up space on the centre console. The cabin will also sport a black-and-white dual-tone theme and come with a retractable-lid storage compartment between the front seats for added practicality.
Kia Carens Clavis EV: Features
When it comes to features, Kia is likely to pack the Carens EV with several premium offerings. These may include a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging for both front and rear passengers, a ventilated and powered driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, and an auto-dimming inside rearview mirror (IRVM).
On the safety front, the Carens EV is expected to come equipped with six airbags as standard, a 360-degree camera with blind spot monitoring, and a Level-2 ADAS suite. The suite could offer advanced features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, driver drowsiness detection, and autonomous emergency braking, enhancing both safety and convenience.
Kia Carens Clavis EV: Expected Price And Rivals
Kia is expected to price the Carens Clavis EV from around Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it in the upper-mid range of the EV market. While there’s no direct competition for a 7-seater electric MPV at the moment, it will still lock horns with a growing lineup of EVs, including the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, as well as the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.
