BS6 Honda City Petrol Launched

Modified On Dec 10, 2019 05:56 PM By Sonny for Honda City 4th Generation

The engine update adds Rs 10,000 to the petrol variant prices

  • Honda City becomes first in segment to offer a BS6 engine.

  • It now shares the updated Digipad 2.0 infotainment system with the Amaze and the Jazz.

  • The BS6 update adds Rs 10,000 to the price of all petrol variants.

  • The Digipad 2.0 with Android Auto and Apple, available from V variant onwards, adds Rs 5,000 to the price of both petrol and diesel engines.

The Honda City finally gets a BS6-compliant engine in the form of the updated 1.5-litre petrol VTEC unit. This is the third Honda model in India to offer a BS6-compliant petrol engine after the Civic and the CR-V.

The 1.5-litre diesel engine option of the Honda City is still a BS4 unit and is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Its 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system has been updated too. The Digipad 2.0 system features satellite navigation, live traffic support via USB Wi-Fi receiver, voice command and smartphone connectivity with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It is offered from the V variant onwards.

The Digipad 2.0 adds a premium of Rs 5,000 to both the petrol and diesel variants of the updated Honda City. Meanwhile, the BS6 update of the petrol engine has made the petrol variants pricier by another Rs 10,000, i.e. a price hike of Rs 15,000 in total. There is no difference in the performance rating or claimed fuel efficiency for the BS6 petrol engine.

The Honda City will get a BS6-compliant diesel engine as well but it is expected to be introduced closer to the April 2020 deadline. Meanwhile, the new-gen City that debuted in Thailand is not expected to arrive in India anytime before mid-2020. It will likely carry forward the same 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines with the introduction of the diesel-CVT option that is offered on the Amaze.

The City is also the first in its segment to offer a BS6 engine option. Meanwhile, rivals Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento are yet to introduce their BS6 petrol models in India.
