BMW wins 4 'Plus X Awards' at 2011 Geneva Motor Show
Two strengths-ingenuity and innovative approach seems to have helped BMW to bag four prestigious awards at the 'Plus X Awards' held at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show recently. The two strengths were materialized in the form of BMW Vision ConnectedDrive. It is basically a concept with futuristic styling and high end technology features and there was much buzz about it lately.The technology inside the BMW Vision ConnectedDrive drove in much appreciation and car lovers as well at the show. On the other hand the concept has opened up immense possibilities with respect to connectivity, social networking and communication through an automobile.

The traces of the origin of the technological impetus to BMW Vision ConnectedDrive can be traced way back in the seventies when BMW’s engineers burnt the midnight oil to connect the drive inside the car to the world outside integrating communication devices in the car. There were around 34 jurists who were international specialized journalists along with market experts representing 32 nations. There was tough competition as several international car manufacturers were also in the list of contenders. The tough fight was assessed on the basis of innovation, technology use, comfort level and the design. After rounds of intensive assessment sessions, BMW’s ConnectedDrive was at last hailed to be the best in these categories besides being termed as the Best Technology of the Year Award.

Probing what really was there in the BMW’s ConnectedDrive is quite easy as innovation and technology speaks out. It has full color display, cameras that detect traffic signs, night vision assistance and active cruise control, the stop and go function and iPhone and the iPod connectivity besides loads of applications. Some of these features have already been introduced by BMW in BMW 7 Series and BMW 5 Series cars.
