Audi plans new models to increase its market share in India

Audi India has made its mark in the luxury car segment of the country and is now eyeing an increase in its market share with the launch of some new models in the near future. The compact SUV Audi Q3 is the first in the line-up and is all set for launch in June 2012. Audi is confident that Q3 have some key strength that would outpace its segment rival BMW X1.

The Audi Q3 has a transverse motor, offers better space utilization and is more spacious at the back. In contrast to this, the BMW X1 has rear-wheel drive layout and longitudinally mounted engine. Audi plans to sell Q3 only with the four-wheel drive option. In order to provide a full Audi experience the Audi Q3 is knitted with a full-fledged MMI system and luxury pack just like the Audi A4.

The price of Quattro-equipped Q3 with a 2.0 TDi engine that drives 170 BHP of power is expected to start at around Rs. 26 lakh. Audi Q7 has been successfully traversing Indian roads but still Audi aspires to launch a quicker version of it and is planning to bring to India the 500BHP V12 diesel Q7.

The standard V12 Q7 has ceramic brakes that do not respond well to dust and hence the engineers from Audi are a bit apprehensive about the dusty conditions of the Indian sub-continent. Therefore, the insanely quick V12 Audi Q7 is awaiting the green signal on the launch. Audi India has a range of sports car in the Indian car market and will be continuing the policy of new offerings in the sports car segment.

For quite some time now, the Audi RS5, Audi R8 and Audi R8 V10 are being sold in India at attractive prices; the affordable sports car Audi TT is going to be re-launched this month. Audi India head Michael Perschke indicated that the company is looking forward to roll out the new TT at very attractive prices that could start as low as Rs. 40 lakh for the 208 BHP 2.0 liter TFSi version.

Another significant car from the German luxury car maker Audi is the all new Audi A3. This car is expected to be launched in India soon after the right-hand-drive version of the car is made available globally. The Audi A3 saloon also uses a transverse engine for space-efficient packaging and is expected to change the game for Audi cars in India.
