Skoda Rapid Automatic Bookings Open Ahead of September Launch

• Skoda Rapid got a new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine for the BS6 era.

• It was launched with a 6-speed manual only but it will now get the option of a 6-speed AT.

• The automatic option claims a mileage rating of 16.24kmpl with the same output of 110PS/175Nm.

• The Rapid-AT can be booked for a deposit amount of Rs 25,000.

• Skoda has not confirmed a date for announcing prices but deliveries are slated to begin from September 18.

The BS6 Skoda Rapid was launched with only a manual transmission for its new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Now, the carmaker has announced that it has opened bookings for an automatic variant against a deposit fee of Rs 25,000. Skoda has not confirmed a launch date for the Rapid AT but it has stated that deliveries will begin from September 18.

The Rapid’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will now get the option of a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Skoda is no longer offering the Rapid with a quick-shifting DSG (dual-clutch) option, which was offered with the now-discontinued diesel engine. It will have the same performance rating of 110PS and 175Nm while the fuel efficiency is rated by ARAI at 16.24kmpl. The other option is a 6-speed manual which has an ARAI-rated claimed mileage of 18.97kmpl.

The Skoda Rapid is equipped with features such as climate control, cruise control, and a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It is currently priced between Rs 7.49 lakh and Rs 11.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Expect the automatic option to add about Rs 1.3 lakh to Rs 2 lakh over the corresponding manual variants. The Rapid will continue to rival the likes of the Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris and Honda City.
