MQB platform to form the base of 2014 Skoda Fabia hatchback
Skoda is planning to roll out the refurbished version of Fabia hatchback by 2014 and moving on the lines of GenNext Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen ‘UP!’, this new Fabia will sit on the MQB platform. This MQB platform is an all new platform that shares parts and engine architectures making the car production more time and cost efficient; this platform is also responsible for fortifying a number of Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat and Audi cars. With the help of this new MQB platform, the companies forming the Volkswagen group will save a lot of cash owing to the lower production costs. Another advantage is that a number of car models can be manufactured on the same lines at the same facility.

Last year, Skoda revealed a new design concept known as the Vision D concept which is expected to be implemented in a sedan/notchback. The revamped 2014 Skoda Fabia also seems to be motivated by this concept especially the front end of this car and the roofline that is sloping towards the C-pillar. The 2014 Skoda Fabia hatchback has a bigger boot and a longer wheelbase as compared to the initial one making the new version more roomy and big. The 2014 Fabia gets a bit too tony at the rear end also with brand new taillights and bumpers based on the Vision D concept.

The current scenario of Fabia and Polo sharing the support structure and other parts, suggests that the next generation Volkswagen Polo could follow the suite and become bigger than its current version just like the 2014 Skoda Fabia hatchback. The existing 1.2-liter MPI unit can be replaced with the 1.2-liter TSI turbo petrol engine, the 1.2-liter TDI engine can be retained and the 1.5-liter TDI diesel engine can be used to power the top-end diesel variant. The other inclusions in the new next-generation Polo could be start-stop technology and cylinder deactivation.
