Datsun redi-GO makes global debut in India

The much awaited Datsun redi GO has finally made its global debut at an ongoing event in Delhi. After the Go and the Go+, this is Nissan’s third product under the economical Datsun brand and it goes up against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki 800, the Hyundai Eon and the Renault Kwid. Bookings for the car will start from May 01, 2016 and the car will hit the roads on June 01, 2016.
The redi-GO shares its mechanicals and the CMF-A platform with the Kwid. This isn’t Renault–Nissan’s first collaborative effort, as we already have the Duster–Terrano, the Scala–Sunny and the Pulse–Micra successfully running on roads.
As mentioned, the car has a powertrain – the three-cylinder 800cc petrol engine, rated at 53bhp and 74Nm of peak torque – identical to the Kwid. Even the five-speed manual gearbox has been carried forward. For the uninitiated, Renault will soon be adding a new 1.0-litre petrol mill and an AMT gearbox to the Kwid’s portfolio. So we expect the same to make its way to the RediGo at a later stage.
It is undoubtedly the best-looking Datsun to date and amiably resembles the concept that was showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. The car has an upright stance and a bold look. The signature trapezoidal grille with the Datsun logo in the middle, stretched out headlamps, muscular bonnet, and very distinct side and rear profiles are some of its standout features.
Though its price has not yet been revealed, we expect the redi-GO to be priced close to the Renault Kwid (INR 2.6 -3.7 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi). Its Indian launch is expected in a month or two.
