Redi GO highlights

October 26, 2016: The redi-GO was launched at an introductory price of Rs 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The entry-level small car is available in 5 variants – D, A, T, T (O) and S, with the top-of-the-line variant priced at Rs 3.34 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) making it the most affordable in the segment. Now, owing to the upcoming festive season, Datsun has launched a limited edition avatar of the redi-GO at Rs 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi). It is known as redi-GO 'Sport' and comes with additional features and aesthetic upgrades, while there are no mechanical changes. The limited-edition was supposed to comprise 1,000 units, but 800 more will now be built. The redi-GO is based on the same CMF-A platform as the Renault Kwid and even uses the same engine – an 800cc petrol motor – that develops 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox though an automatic (AMT) version is expected to launch in future. Claimed mileage is rated at 25.17kmpl, again, same as the Kwid. The redi-GO is available in five paint shades and you also get 50 optional accessories to personalise the car as per your style. Recently, Datsun had issued a voluntary recall for the redi-GO. The recall affects 932 units of the hatchback alongside 50,000 (approx.) units of the Renault Kwid.

Let me just clarify, I am not planning to buy the redi-GO. I have been following this car ever since its debut a couple of months ago, just like the fact that they kept the overall design similar to the concept from the 2014 Indian Auto Expo. The car's clever packaging and design intrigued me. Even Datsun has offered the daytime running LEDs just like the concept had. Although, I have heard that they are not as bright as DRLs are supposed to be. Except the Kwid and the Eon, its chief competi read more 356

    Datsun RediGO T Option

I own this car from 2 July. It has an average performance. Inside plastic is below average. Poor finishing. Common facilities like a central lock, door sensor, clock etc are not there. AC is OK. The position of the power windows switch is inconvenient. Rear view mirrors are not adjustable from inside. Low-quality finishing for AC switches, music system etc. It can only seat 2 persons properly. Due to the hand brake fittings, the middle person cannot rest legs comfortably. Luggage room is spaciou read more 181

    Datsun RediGO T

I bought this car when I was in my third year of engineering and wanted a car so bad, but obviously, I had monetary issues cause I was just a student. I decided to go with a budget car with all the amenities of an expensive car so I went ahead with buying the RediGO on a loan. Soon I realised that it was the best decision to sell my Pulsar 220 and buy this beauty. It is so smooth while driving it in the city and when I go on weekend trips it revs up like a beast. The car is meticulously designed read more 148

Datsun Redi GO review

A small, compact car makes a lot of sense for the crowded by-lanes our country springs up every now and then. Japanese automaker Nissan resurrected the Datsun brand and gave us the GO hatchback and the GO+ MPV. Sadly, neither of them have managed to get in the numbers the manufacturer was hoping. Say hello to the Datsun redi-GO; a tiny hatchback for the big city, that has been launched at an attractive Rs 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the base 'D' variant. In all, the redi-GO is available in five variants – D, A, T, T (O), and S. Let's see what's on offer

Pros

Claimed efficiency is 25.17kmpl. Identical to its sibling, the Renault Kwid.

Super-light steering wheel makes it easy to drive in tight, urban spaces.

Compact proportions. Fits in practically anywhere.

Cons

Airbag limited to top-spec version only. No ABS at all.

No touchscreen infotainment, digital instrument cluster like the Kwid.

Quality and fit and finish levels are average.

Stand Out Features

  • Cool looking LED daytime running lamps are unique to the redi-GO.

Cool looking LED daytime running lamps are unique to the redi-GO.

  • Ground clearance is a class leading 185 mm. (Kwid = 180mm)

Ground clearance is a class leading 185 mm. (Kwid = 180mm)

CarDekho Verdict

The person who buys the Datsun redi-GO will most probably be the first-time buyer who is upgrading from a scooter or a motorbike. He or she will also probably be a novice driver which means that the redi-GO would make a great car to learn or improve one’s driving skills on. But the redi-GO is not for the kind of customer who wants something exciting to drive and something that has good road dynamics. A 1-litre engine variant is expected to join the ranks but that will probably hit showrooms sometime later this or year or in 2017.

"The redi-Go is a smart, stylish, practical & value for money city run about. "

Overall, the redi-GO looks quite funky, has a lot of space and offers a good ride quality. Essentially, if you are the kind of person that is looking for a point A to point B travel in a car that is easy to drive in traffic and easy to park, the redi-GO will suit you well.
