Waiting period of popular diesel cars soars due to hike in petrol price

The domestic car sales in the country have not been so good lately. However on the contrary, some car models have such a high demand that car makers are facing a hard time regarding the supplies. One such example is Hyundai Verna Fluidic, which was launched in the month of May and since then there has been an increase of more than eight months in the waiting period of its diesel version. This waiting period boost has stopped the dealers from accepting any more bookings. Hyundai Motors was producing approximately 4000 units of Hyundai Verna Fluidic every month, but the difference between the prices of petrol and diesel heightened more last week, which resulted in more demand for the diesel variant of the car.

This demand is far more than what actually Hyundai India could manufacture currently. As per the director of sales and marketing of Hyundai India, Mr. Arvind Saxena, currently no more bookings for Hyundai Verna Fluidic are being accepted, as the waiting period has substantially gone up. The time frame of waiting period depends from version to version like one to eight months. Right now, the firm has a backlog of more than 20,000 units. Same kind of situation is faced by Toyota Innova and Toyota Corolla Altis diesel variant. Both have a waiting period of four and two months respectively.

As per the Deputy Managing Director of Toyota India, even if the entire car industry is going through a bad effect of higher fuel prices and interest rates, there has been mix impact on Toyota cars till now. Older car models, such as Toyota Corolla and Toyota Innova have a high demand and sway a waiting period. The worst situation is of new Maruti Swift whose bookings had been now stopped as it touched the mark of 90,000. The situation of Maruti Swift intensified with the start and stop production activities going on at the Manesar plant, where Maruti Swift is manufactured.
