The VF7 electric SUV will be the first launch from the manufacturer, while the chic-looking VF3 is expected to come in 2026

VinFast, Vietnam's sole electric vehicle manufacturer, has revealed some important details about its India entry. Following the showcase of its EV lineup at the Auto Expo 2025, the brand has now announced the launch timeline, local production plans, and its model strategy for India.

And no, they are not beginning with a slow pace. Rather, VinFast is going to introduce three electric SUVs – the VF7, VF6, and VF3 – within 2026.

Let's take a look at what each of them promises:

VinFast VF 7: Mid-Size Electric SUV

    Expected Launch: September 2025

Rivals: Hyundai Ioniq 5, BYD Sealion 7, BMW iX1 LWB

    VinFast VF7

VinFast's flagship SUV, the VF 7, comes with a coupe-like design and crisp lines. It has LED light bars on the front and rear. The VF 7 was designed in partnership with Torino Design, an Italian design company, and is available in two trim levels worldwide: Eco and Plus.

    • VF 7 Eco: FWD, 174 PS / 250 Nm

    • VF 7 Plus: AWD, 349 PS / 500 Nm

    Battery: 75.3 kWh

Estimated WLTP range: Up to 450 km (Eco variant)

Features expected include a big touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver display, ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems), a panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting.

VinFast VF 6: A Compact Electric SUV

    Expected Launch: September 2025

Rivals: Maruti e Vitara, Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra BE6 and MG ZS EV

    VinFast VF6

VF 6 is going to be a compact electric SUV that can be used for city driving and family commuting. It will have a length of about 4.3 metres and will compete with electric compact SUVs in India such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV and Mahindra BE 6.

    • VF 6 Eco: 174 PS / 250 Nm, 59.6 kWh battery, ~399 km

    • VF 6 Plus: 201 PS / 250 Nm, 59.6 kWh battery, ~381 km

It is available with only FWD trim in both versions.

The interior features a 12.9-inch infotainment screen with connected car technology, a rather simple dashboard design, and safety functions like lane-keep assistance and adaptive cruise control.

VinFast VF 3: A Micro SUV

    Claimed range: ~200 km

    Expected Launch: Early 2026

Small battery, specs to be announced later

    VinFast VF3

The VF 3 is a compact EV intended for daily use in busy cities. Though approximately 3 metres long, it sports SUV-like looks with flared arches, knobby bumpers, and an aggressive stance. It is available with a rear-wheel-drive configuration.

The VF 3 is likely to be a budget electric vehicle for young customers. It will compete with the MG Comet EV.

    Dealership And Local Manufacturing Plans

The brand is in process of setting up a dealership and service network, extending to not only metros but Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where adoption of EVs is consistently increasing. Bookings are expected to be opened later in June.

VinFast has made a USD 2 billion investment for operations in India, including USD 500 million for the initial phase. The company is setting up a factory in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu with an initial capacity of 50,000 units per year, expandable to 150,000 units.

The factory is also expected to be utilised for export operations, making India a global hub for VinFast.

    Battery Subscription And Warranty

VinFast can launch its battery subscription option in India, where the buyer can buy the car without the battery and pay a monthly subscription for battery usage, reducing upfront expense, much like what MG is doing with their Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS).

Warranty terms and cost will be announced closer to launch, but customers can expect competitive terms in both these areas.

    Summary

VinFast is foraying into the Indian EV market with a three-model family catering to various segments. Tech-equipped products, and anticipated competitive pricing should help the brand set up a strong footprint in one of the world's fastest-growing EV markets.
