Stealing a car isn’t an easy job. And, to steal a BMW, one has to be exceptionally good since anti-theft technology in a German car is always outstanding. We know Beemers have comfortable cabins, but that doesn’t mean one should take the liberty of taking a quick nap while stealing it. This is exactly what a thief did in Seattle after racing away with a BMW. The city police caught hold of the criminal with the help of BMW officials who tracked and locked the car remotely. The car in question was the BMW 550i.

It all began when the owner mistakenly left the key fob inside the car and the thief used the opportunity to flee the scene with the vehicle. As soon as the owner realised the theft, he filed a report at the local police station. The police then contacted the German carmaker to track and nab the accused. BMW not only tracked the car to Ravenna, but also locked the doors remotely. The team at BMW even played lines inside the car ‘I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with me’ from the Hollywood flick, The Watchmen.

Describing the incident, the deputy director of communications for the Seattle Police Department published on SPD's blog: "A car thief awoke from a sound slumber Sunday morning (Nov. 27) to find he had been remotely locked inside a stolen BMW, just as Seattle police officers were bearing down on him.”

This event sheds light on how technology can assist us in real time! So, next time you are leaving your vehicle, make sure the keys are always with you.
