Indian auto major, Tata Motors yesterday said that the company is working sincerely to bring in the CNG and Diesel variants of India's smallest and Cheapest car Nano's diesel and CNG variants, clarifying that the plans are put on hold.

Speaking to reporters, Tata Motors Managing Director (Domestic) Karl Slym said, "Plans in this regard are not on hold. We have talked about both of those variants.... The Nano CNG is within the sight of first half of next calendar year," However the diesel variant will still take a little time according to him. So we are expecting the Nano Diesel to come in the last quarter of 2013.

Tata Nano has been doing reasonably well for the company, it recorded a 4 pe cent growth in October as compared to the similar period last year. However, if sales status of this year specifically watched, the sales has been declining constantly. So, Tata Motors has to really speed up its plans of launching the CNG and Diesel variants.

So accepting the fact that Nano's sales volumes are not as good as the company expected, Tata Motors Passenger Car Business Unit President Ranjit Yadav said, "Of course we are way behind our plans or expectations that we had. But now Nano is finding home for itself in many new segments, including urban areas,"

Calling Nano a huge opportunity for Tata Motors, Yadav said,"we have seen interesting growth.. about 31 per cent in the last couple of quarters." Tata Officials also said that Nano should and cannot be compared with other cars, "The Nano is a category and class by itself. There is enough space to grow in that category. More players in the market means more opportunities for customers to explore," Yadav added.
