  • Tata has introduced subscription plans for the mid-spec Nexon EV.

  • It is the only EV in India to be offered with a subscription plan.

  • Customers can choose from three different tenure plans: 18, 24 and 36 months.

  • The Nexon EV is the most affordable long-range EV in India starting at Rs 13.99 lakh.

  • Nexon EV claims 312km of range on a full charge.

Tata launched its flagship electric offering, the Nexon EV, in January 2020. The carmaker has now introduced a subscription plan for its small electric SUV in partnership with Orix India. Only the mid-spec XZ+ variant of the Nexon EV is available on lease to start with. For now, the subscription option is being offered in five major cities: Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

The prices of the subscription plans are as follows:

Tenure

18 months

24 months

36 months

Monthly Rate

Rs 47,900

Rs 44,900

Rs 41,900

Tata has stated that the rates are inclusive of all taxes

Those who choose to lease a Nexon EV can avail benefits such as comprehensive insurance coverage, roadside assistance, periodic servicing, doorstep delivery, and installation of the charger at their homes or workplace. Once the minimum period of 18 months is completed, customers can end their subscription with one month's notice or extend it further or even put in a request to buy the car outright.

The XZ+ variant on offer for lease is equipped with features like auto AC with rear AC vents, height-adjustable headrests, auto-folding outside rearview mirrors, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It also gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an 8-speaker audio system as well as connected tech features. The Nexon EV gets dual front airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorage and ABS with EBD as standard while the XZ+ also comes with front fog lamps, rear defogger and rear parking camera.

The Nexon EV is powered by a 129PS/245Nm electric motor and like most electric powertrains it is a single-speed automatic. It gets two driving modes: Drive and Sport. Tata claims a range of 312km from a full charge of the 30.2kWh battery. It takes 8.5 hours to charge this battery from 10 to 90 percent using a normal 15A plug point, so best to charge it overnight. But it does get easier if you happen to have access to some DC fast-charging stations where Tata says the battery can be charged from empty to 80 per cent in just 1 hour.

The Nexon EV has become the first electric vehicle in India to be offered on lease. It is also the most affordable EV to claim more than 300km of range, priced from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 15.99 lakh. The other long-range EVs on sale in India are the Hyundai Kona Electric (Rs 23.75 lakh to Rs 23.94 lakh) and MG ZS EV (Rs 20.88 lakh to Rs 23.58 lakh). While the ZS EV gets the best car warranty package of the three (5-year/unlimited km), it is the Kona Electric that offers the highest claimed range on a single charge (452km).
