    Mahindra Scorpio N

Mahindra has launched the new Scorpio N facelift at a price of Rs 13.69 lakh (ex-showroom), and while the SUV retains its powertrain options, slight changes have been made to its styling, colour palette and feature list. It is now being offered in a wide variety of seven trims and engine-transmission combos, which begs the question as to what configurations you can specify the SUV in. In this story, let’s see how they stack up:

But before we get to the variant-wise split, here’s a quick look at the Scorpio N’s powertrain specifications:

    • The lower variants of the diesel get a less powerful state of tune, while the torque figure also varies based on the gearbox you choose.

    • An optional four-wheel drive system is also on offer with the diesel engine.

    • As seen above, it's only the Diesel MT RWD setup that is offered on all variants.

    • The petrol versions skimp out altogether on the Z6 and Z8 trims, and you will have to instead opt for higher or lower variants.

    • The Z8L variant can be had across all the possible powertrain combinations, and a six-seater version with captain seats in the second row is also offered with its RWD configurations.

    • Users with significant off-road or rough-road usage have a budget option in the form of a Z4 Diesel MT 4WD trim.

The Scorpio N previously scored a full 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests. We have analysed the scores in detail here.

    Price & Rivals

Mahindra has priced the Scorpio N facelift from Rs 13.69 lakh to Rs 25.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Take a look at its detailed price list here.

The SUV has no direct rivals except its sibling, the Thar Roxx. It can also be an alternative to crossovers such as the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO, Hyundai Alcazar and the MG Hector, while the body-on-frame Toyota Innova Crysta may also be considered.

    CarDekho Says…

The Scorpio N has proven itself to be one of the most popular SUVs in India, and it’s no surprise why. It is capable, has an old-school charm with its rugged and tough platform and has all the modern features you expect as well. And in our experience, these qualities sure make it punch much above its weight, even against cars twice its price. The extensive choice of powertrains is a big part of its appeal. However, if we had to nitpick, we wish Mahindra offered the 4WD drivetrain with the mid-spec Z8S variant too for a more balanced buy between affordability, capability and features.
