M&M has updated their flagship SUV - XUV5OO, Mahindra has further loaded the already feature rich SUV and it now shows slight improvement in the overall fuel efficiency. So we have pitched Mahindra’s closest rivals on a spec comparison, although XUV5OO is the costliest of the lot when compared with the 2015 Safari Storme (launching soon) and Duster AWD. Let us roll!

Spec-Sheet Comparison - XUV5OO vs Duster AWD vs 2015 Safari Storme

Engine

Safari is the most powerful of the lot, with the recent facelift (yet to be launch), it gets a power bump of nearly 10 horses - making it 148 bhp (150 PS) with a max twist of 320 Nm. Second comes the XUV5OO with 140 bhp on tap with 330 Nm of max torque. Duster AWD is the least powerful here with 108 bhp and 245 Nm of peak torque, but it is also the lightest of the lot with a gross weight of nearly 1800 kilos compared to Safari/XUV’s 2500+ kilos! Duster is also the most fuel efficient here with 19+ kmpl certified efficiency. Moreover, Duster and XUV5OO offers 6-speed manual transmission while Safari offers 5-speed manual only. One thing to note,  Safari is the only SUV here with the body-on-frame architecture while the rest two are monocoque.

Comfort features and Convenience

XVU5OO offers more features than the rest of the two cars here while Safari is the least loaded, Duster comes second. But XUV5OO is also the costliest one here and it offers most of the features in the top trims! Moreover, Duster is the only SUV here which does not offer 3rd-row seating compared to XUV5OO and Safari.

Starting with the infotainment system - XUV5OO and Duster offer touchscreen infotainment system, Safari does not offer a touch unit. Duster AWD and XUV5OO both offers 7-inch touchscreen unit but XUV5OO trumps in terms of features apart from regular stuff like - navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, XUV5OO sports HVAC controls in the infotainment system and Smartphone App Integration with Mahindra Blue Sense along with reversing camera. Speaking of the 2015 Safari, it offers single din Harman audio system with a display screen and decibels are powered by a six-speaker system. It gets the Bluetooth connectivity and reverse parking sensor support but it looks dated compared to the rest two. Apart from these, XUV5OO is the only vehicle here that offers leather seat upholstery, Safari facelift and Duster AWD offers premium fabric upholstery.

Safety

Mahindra again trumps in terms of safety with the XUV5OO, the monocoque SUV comes standard with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and all-around disc braking. Furthermore, it adds side and curtain airbags in top trims making it a total of 6 along with ESP (Electronic Stability Control), Hill Hold and Descent, and all-around disc braking. Safari, on the other hand, gets dual front airbags but are not standard while it gets standard ABS with EBD, all-around disc braking and we are done. Duster AWD adds few features compared to the Safari apart from the dual-front airbags and ABS & EBD with Brake Assist, it gets ESC (Electronic Stability Control), ASR (Anti Slip Regulation) along with Hill Ascend.
