Skoda Rapid's diesel variant likely to be launched later

The Czech auto major is gearing up to launch its new sedan Skoda Rapid on November 16th. Skoda Rapid is basically the Volkswagen Vento with a Skoda badge apart from the slight variations in the interiors. Similar to Volkswagen Vento, the Skoda Rapid sedan is also expected to come with a 5 speed manual gearbox for the petrol and diesel variant and an automatic gearbox for the petrol variant. The Skoda Rapid diesel automatic is apparently not going to be launched initially.With an economic price tag, the Skoda Rapid will be the second least priced sedan in the Indian car market after Nissan Sunny.

Skoda India is expected to place new sedan under Volkswagen Vento with a price difference of atleast Rs 20,000 –Rs 30,000 between the two. Skoda Rapid sedan, which is being manufactured along with Volkswagen Vento at the Volkswagen’s Oragadam plant in Chennai, is nevertheless short of couple of features from VW Vento. The Skoda Rapid is reported to lack the steering mounted audio controls. The new sedan will be offered in three variants, Skoda Rapid Active, Skoda Rapid Ambition and Skoda Rapid Elegance, while the Volkswagen Vento is offered in only two variants- Trendline and Highline.

However, Skoda Rapid will house the same 1.6 L diesel and petrol engine from Volkswagen Vento producing the same peak power output of 105 Bhp and a torque output of 255 Nm and 160 Nm respectively. To promote the Skoda Motors sales during the festival season, the auto manufacturer has launched four additional variants of its popular hatchback Skoda Fabia. Two variants – Active and Ambition in petrol and diesel variants, while the other two variants, Active Plus and Ambition Plus are launched with company offered packages. In all, Skoda Fabia is offered in 11 variants, 6 in petrol and 5 in diesel.
