Renault Triber Will Make Use Of Nissan Magnite’s Turbo-petrol Engine

Published On Nov 05, 2020 02:48 PM By Dhruv for Renault Triber

It’s expected to launch sometime in the second quarter of 2021 after the Kiger sub-4m SUV has reached showrooms

  • Renault-Nissan 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine was first seen at Auto Expo 2020.

  • Nissan Magnite is the first production car in India to use this engine.

  • It makes 100PS/160Nm with a 5-speed manual transmission and 100PS/152Nm with a CVT.

  • Offers more power and better fuel efficiency than its naturally aspirated version.

Nissan’s Magnite will be the first production car to feature the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that we first saw at Auto Expo 2020, but it will not definitely be the last. Not only will this engine also be used in the upcoming Renault Kiger (Magnite’s Renault counterpart), but the French carmaker plans to put it in the Triber sub-4m MPV as well.

The engine, in its naturally aspirated form, already exists in the Renault Triber where it makes a rather modest output. The general consensus around this engine was that while it does enough to deserve a place in the engine bay, a turbo-petrol version would add zing to the Triber’s performance. Take a look at the difference between these two engines in the table below:

Displacement

1.0-litre naturally-aspirated

1.0-litre turbocharged

Power

72PS

100PS

Torque

96Nm

160Nm/152Nm

Transmission

5-speed MT

5-speed MT/ CVT

Claimed Fuel Efficiency

18.75kmpl

20kmpl/17.7kmpl

The claimed efficiency figures are of the Magnite, where the output of the turbo-petrol engine is not only greater, but it also returns better fuel efficiency.

With the turbo-petrol engine, we expect the Triber to be offered with bigger wheels, something we saw at Auto Expo 2020. Not only that, Renault could also choose to update components such as the brakes to account for that 28PS increase in power and near-doubling of the torque. Renault did showcase a special variant of the Triber that had a dual-tone paint scheme, more premium interiors, and larger 16-inch alloy wheels. These are all things that Renault could choose to offer with the Triber Turbo.

The Renault Triber Turbo will be launched after the Kiger. The sub-4 metre SUV from Renault has been spotted multiple times in camo and is likely to be launched in early-2021, right after Magnite. The Triber should be next in line, with a launch expected sometime around mid-2021.
