It looks a lot like the pre-production concept that was unveiled earlier

Update (02/12/2020): Nissan has launched the Magnite with prices beginning from Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Read more about it here.

  • The production-spec version of the Nissan Magnite is yet to be unveiled.

  • Leaked patent images reveal that the final model will look a lot like the pre-production concept.

  • Most of the design aspects remain unchanged apart from the bottom bit of the front fascia and the rear bumper.

  • It is likely to be equipped with features like a 360-degree camera, cruise control and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

  • The Magnite is expected to be launched in India in January 2021.

The Nissan Magnite is poised to be the Japanese carmaker’s entrant to the sub-4m SUV segment in India. It’s been unveiled in its pre-production concept avatar and is expected to launch here by early 2021. Now, the final production model’s design has been partially revealed by leaked patent images.

The patents reveal that the final model’s front end will look a lot like the concept, with the same L-shaped LED daytime running lights, the headlamps and the large grille. Its bottom half looks different to integrate an air dam, a skid plate that doesn’t protrude as much and houses the fog lamps under the DRLs. Around the rear as well, it looks the same as the concept apart from the bumper design which is not as sporty but still has its rugged appeal thanks to the skid plate.

Nissan’s small SUV seems unchanged from the side profile but doesn’t reveal the alloy design. The wheels on the production car in India will likely be smaller than what was showcased on the concept but the design might remain similar. While the patent images do not include sunroof, the source of the leaked images stated that this does not imply there won’t be one on offer at all.

There is no news on the interior details of the production-spec Magnite but we know that the Nissan offering will be equipped with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with connected car technology, cruise control and even a 360-degree camera. Since it has the same underpinnings as the Renault Triber sub-4m MPV crossover, we expect the Magnite to offer a spacious cabin as well.

The Magnite will likely be offered with two 1.0-litre petrol engines, a naturally-aspirated unit from the Triber and a new turbocharged unit as well. While the Triber engine makes 72PS of power, the turbo-petrol engine is expected to offer 100PS of power as well as the option of a CVT automatic. Nissan is expected to price the Magnite from Rs 5.5 lakh onwards. It will be taking on the likes of the Maruti Vitarra Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and Ford EcoSport as well as upcoming models like Kia Sonet, Toyota Urban Cruiser and Renault Kiger.
