Next-Gen Volvo XC60 Spied For The First Time
For the past couple of years the Swedish automaker has been on a spree of re-imaging itself with an onslaught of technologically advanced and aesthetically pleasing products. As most of us know, the manufacturer’s renaissance started with the second generation XC90 and then came the S90 along with its estate version the V90, while the new 40-series concept were revealed a few weeks ago. Now, the next-gen XC60 was spied for the first time as it making its way through the streets of Amsterdam. It is expected to arrive late next year or in 2018. Expect the S60 sedan to follow as well.

Volvo’s second-generation the XC60 SUV was spotted for the first time. It will borrow styling elements from the successful XC90 and the recently revealed 40-series concepts.

As most of us know, the manufacturer’s renaissance started with the second generation XC90and then came the S90 along with its estate version the V90, while the new 40-series concepts were revealed a few weeks ago. Now, the next-gen XC60 was spied for the first time as it making its way through the streets of Amsterdam. It is expected to arrive late next year or in 2018. Expect the S60sedan to follow as well.
Platform and Engines
The new XC60is believed to be based on the Volvo’s SPA platform (Scalable Product Architecture) which underpins the XC90 and the S90. The 40-series concepts (the 40.1 and the 40.2) which will be the basis for the upcoming XC40 compact luxury SUV and the S40 sedan, were based on the automaker’s CMA platform (Compact Modular Architecture).
Looking at the spy shots, the SUV looks slightly bigger. It might have similar footprints, but the wheelbase will certainly increase to release more cabin space in contrast to the ongoing model. And since the new entry-level model — the XC40 is coming, the increase in real estate would help in making room for the 40-series SUV.
Mechanically, the second generation XC60 will be powered by Volvo’s new Drive-E range of petrol and diesel engines along with Twin Engine hybrid powertrain. Similar to what we have seen in the latest Volvos.
Design and Features
It will adopt Volvo’s current design language which made it debut with the second generation XC90. Adopting elements such as the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED daytime running lights and ‘L’ shaped LED taillamps. On the inside, expect a large vertically placed touchscreen that will feature Volvo’s Sensus infotainment system with Apple CarPlay support.
The new XC60 is India bound just like the XC40 and the S40 and will replace the ongoing model.
