It will be based on a monocoque platform – a first for the Toyota MPV nameplate

Update (25/11/2022): Toyota has unveiled the Innova Hycross in India. Bookings for the MPV are now underway, while its prices are likely to be revealed at the 2023 Auto Expo.

  • The existing Innova Crysta will continue to soldier on alongside the new model.

  • The Innova Hycross will be a front-wheel-drive model, while the Crysta has a rear-wheel-drive setup.

  • Spy video shows the LED lighting, a 360-degree camera and a larger touchscreen unit.

  • Other expected features include ventilated seats and a sunroof.

  • To be powered by a 190PS+ (combined) 2-litre strong-hybrid powertrain mated to an e-CVT gearbox.

  • Likely to be priced from Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards.

The new Toyota Innova, which will be called the ‘Innova Hycross’, will debut in November and go on sale shortly after. Toyota will continue to retail the existing Innova Crysta alongside the new model.

It has been spied a few times already and now another video of the MPV undergoing testing has surfaced online. It shows the Innova Hycross draped heavily in camouflage while revealing its LED lighting setup. Apart from that, the new Innova Hycross was seen sporting a 360-degree camera setup and a larger touchscreen unit than the one offered in Crysta inside the cabin.

As it will be positioned above the Hyryder in Toyota India’s lineup, it should get ventilated seats, wireless phone charging, and possibly a sunroof which are on offer on the SUV. Its safety net is likely to consist of up to seven airbags, front and rear parking sensors, and vehicle stability control (VSC).

Toyota will be providing the Innova Hycross with a 190PS+ (combined) 2-litre strong-hybrid petrol powertrain while ditching the diesel engine altogether. This petrol unit will come mated to an e-CVT gearbox and will be produced locally. Also, this will be the first Innova to be based on a monocoque platform and will get a front-wheel drivetrain (FWD) instead of the rear-wheel drivetrain (RWD), for which it’s always been known.

We believe the Innova Hycross could be priced in Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) ballpark. While it will be a premium alternative to the likes of the Kia Carens and Mahindra Marazzo, it will be an affordable option to the Kia Carnival.
