Audi recently introduced the very first SQ5 diesel SUV and has now extended its trend of frugality to the RS 6 Avant, down-rating the engine for more frugality but maintaining the power and performance. What Audi has done is take out the big 5.0-litre twin-turbo V10 TFSI and replace it with the smaller and more frugal 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 TFSI, making the car more economical with potential mileage figures of up to 12.24 kmpl.

The new RS 6 Avant doesn't compromise performance in order to achieve frugality. The new engine cranks out 552bhp along with a steady 700Nm of peak torque. The power is transmitted to the drive-train via means of the 8-speed tiptronic transmission. The two large twin-scroll turbochargers enable the RS 6 Avant to gather momentum with remarkable intensity.

They are mounted together with the intercooler in the inside V of the cylinder banks. The exhaust side of the cylinder heads is also on the inside, while the intake side is on the outside. This concept allows for a compact design and short gas paths with minimal flow losses. The body of the new RS 6 Avant plays a major role in this performance boost. According to Audi the car is now about 100kgs lighter.

Thanks to its 20 per cent aluminium based build, the car now has better power-to-weight ratios. The Audi RS 6 Avant will be made available for orders from early 2013 and first UK deliveries are scheduled later in the summer of 2013. The car will cost 67.58 lakh.
