Maruti Suzuki To Move Towards ‘Greener’ Technologies

On 5th of June as the world was celebrating the ‘World Environment Day’, Maruti Suzuki came up with a new action plan for the protection of the environment. Reduction of greenhouse emissions of its vehicles and to bring down the emissions of its operations, is some of the key points of the action plan made by Maruti. The company is also trying to reduce the usage of the resources to become a ‘Greener Company’. Although, the company wish to expand its business but at the same time it wants to go for adopting newer environment friendly technologies.

Maruti Suzuki To Move Towards €˜Greener€™ Technologies

The Maruti Suzuki environment friendly approach involves four broad components: 1) Reducing carbon footprint in manufacturing; 2) Identify, adopt and invest in new environment friendly technologies; 3) Bring down energy footprint of its cars by enhancing fuel efficiency and; 4) Closely working with the Government to formulate environment friendly policies. Reducing carbon footprint in manufacturing is something, which the company is following for past few years and have achieved significant results. The company has reduced the power consumption by 30 percent in last decade at the Gurgaon plant.

The company is always interested and ready to invest in the cost effective technologies that bring down greenhouse gas emissions of manufacturing units. Maruti's Manesar B plant is the first plant in India which is 100 percent LED. The new models of the Maruti Suzuki are built on newer technologies that assure higher fuel efficiencies and lower emissions, which eventually bring down the energy usage in the vehicles. The companies new Swift and Swift Dzire have a technology, which is capable of reducing emissions by 4-5% per kilometer. The company always supports the government in formulating the environmental friendly policies. Through this, the greenhouse gas emission can be controlled.
