Maruti Suzuki India Rely Heavily on Diesel Cars
Maruti Suzuki India has been amidst a lot of chaos recently, especially with its Manesar’s facility. But Maruti isn’t amongst those who like to be anyplace but at the top. Maruti is set to regain its position in the market with the Manesar facility coming to full function. Maruti Suzuki India said that they have been planning on increasing their diesel engine capacity which will help them achieve an overall 40% market share in the domestic passenger vehicle market.
During the Annual General Meeting, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) Chairman R C Bhargava said that if 80% consumers are investing in diesel then Maruti cannot be a predominantly petrol car maker. He also added that by the year 2014, Maruti will have a total capacity of 7 Lakh diesel engines and that they are currently looking if there is a requirement of increasing the diesel engine capacity.
At present Maruti is already setting up a diesel engine plant at Gurgaon which will start production next year. Initially the capacity will be 1.5 Lakh which will eventually go up to 3 Lakh by 2014. There are further reports stating that they will be sourcing 1Lakh diesel engine from Fiat in India.
The Managing Director and CEO, Shinzo Nakanishi said that Maruti India is planning a CNG variant in the Alto K10 lineup. Currently India is waiting for the Maruti Alto 800 which was supposed to launch near Diwali but the plans have been delayed due to the 18th July incident that happened at the Maruti factory in Manesar.
