Maruti Suzuki bagged another Order of 2,071 Gypsys from Indian Army
Maruti Suzuki has bagged another big order from the Indian Army to deliver its most potent offroader- the mighty Gypsy. The company received an order to supply 2,071 Gypsys costing around Rs 125 crore. Prior to this, the Indian Army also had shortlisted Mahindra Scorpio and Tata Safari as it placed an order of 3,200 vehicles to replace its old fleet of SUVs.
The army under GS 500 category placed the order few weeks back and if reports are to be believed, the deliveries will start in the next few months. Earlier in the December, Maruti Suzuki also received a single largest order to manufacture 4,000 units of its sports utility vehicle, Gypsy from the Indian Army.
The army is amongst the major buyers of Gypsy since 1991. Starting with around 1,500 Gypsys the first year, the company sold about 35,000 units to the armed forces. The last order of 4,000 order was the single largest for the Gypsy from the army.
The vehicles have been specially designed to meet the requirement for the Indian Army. Gypsys will be operated in tough terrain and in difficult geographies, such as in Ladakh, Assam and desert of Rajasthan. The Gypsys will come equipped with black-out convoy lights, which emit a green ray during black-outs. The vehicles will also have towing and special hooks for mounting of weapons.
