Maruti India plans to bring 20 new cars in next 5yrs

India's largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India has plans to roll out 15-20 new cars in the coming five years. Out of which, five of the car models are in the advanced stage of development. Following the current trend in the domestic car market, Maruti India is currently focusing on the production of low priced cars which comprise of 70-80% of their upcoming launches that also includes the facelifts of their existing models as well.

Among the launches that are hoped to take place in the next few years, a sub-four meter version of the Maruti Swift Dzire, an MPV launch, Maruti A Star facelift and an upgraded Maruti Ritz are all included on the Maruti India's plans that are in the pipeline. The sub-four meter version of the Maruti Swift Dzire is likely to be launched in the 2012 Auto Expo that is to take place in New Delhi. The all-new 2013 Maruti Alto 800 is also on the cards. According to market experts, the upgraded versions of the existing models and fresh car models are being introduced in the car market, due to the shorter life-cycle of current products. The company is quite keen on following this strategy in tandem with its counterpart in Japan, observing that the consumers are more interested in fresher products in the car market.

Mr I.V. Rao, the chief executive of Maruti Suzuki India is reported to have said that Indian engineers play a big role in the product development, not only for India, but also for the global products as well. Mr Rao is also said to have added that, with the involvement of Indian engineers, they will be able to keep track of the continuous changes taking place in the Indian market, which is influenced by the customer expectations and ever changing competition. Apparently, the Suzuki Motor Corp has decided to merge their RD facility with the Indian RD department in near future and Mr. Rakesh Batra, partner and national director of Ernst and Young, also shares his opinion that the Indian R D facility with greater responsibility will only help in future developments.
