Mahindra’s latest EV promises more space, more tech, and a lot of range.
(UPDATE: Mahindra has launched the new XEV 9S at a price of Rs 19.95 lakh!
It is available in 4 broad variants.)

Mahindra will make a big bang in the electric SUV segment with its soon-to-arrive XEV 9S, which will have its global premiere on November 27. What makes this launch special is not just that it is yet another electric SUV; it's being positioned as India's first true 7-seater electric SUV, built on Mahindra's all-new INGLO platform.
For India’s SUV-loving folks looking to go electric without compromising on space or comfort, the XEV 9S could be the model that finally makes the switch feel practical.
Mahindra's Electric Journey So Far
Before the XEV 9S, Mahindra had already begun building credibility in the EV space with models like the XUV400 and the Born Electric lineup. With over 30,000 electric SUVs on Indian roads, the brand is now one of the few to possess experience in large-scale EV deployment.

Mahindra aims to bring that experience with the XEV 9S to a segment where no direct rival currently exists: an electric SUV that seats seven in comfort, offers premium features, and has a long driving range.
Designed For All, Built On Innovation
The XEV 9S is based on Mahindra's INGLO skateboard platform, which is an electric-first architecture transforming the way cars are designed. By placing the batteries flat under the floor, this setup frees up interior space and lowers the centre of gravity, improving both ride quality and handling stability.

It also allows for better packaging, featuring a flat cabin floor, a sliding second row, and even a full-sized frunk (front trunk). More flexibility and smarter storage translate into a fit for growing families or long weekend trips.

The skateboard design also enhances crash safety since the batteries form part of a strong, rigid base that improves the SUV's structural integrity.
Premium Inside, Electric Outside
Although Mahindra hasn't yet shown the full interior of the car, teasers have revealed some key highlights. The XEV 9S will feature a three-screen dashboard setup, consisting of one for the instrument cluster, another for infotainment, and a dedicated passenger display.

Expect the same high-end features that start with the XEV 9e, such as a Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby surround sound, a power-adjustable driver's seat with memory, and toggle-style controls shared with the BE 6 and XEV 9e. Additional comfort amenities that should be included in the package are ventilated and massaging front seats, tri-zone climate control, and ambient lighting.

And of course, there's the panoramic skyroof, a design high point Mahindra is calling its "Sky Lounge", intended to make every drive feel more open and premium.
Built To Protect
Mahindra has really been focusing hard on safety with its Born Electric range. The XEV 9S is likely to boast Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, ESP, hill-hold assist, and a 360-degree camera system.

The INGLO platform also allows for better absorption of energy in the event of a collision, thus making the SUV structurally safer than a conventional EV. Mahindra has hinted that it's targeting 5-star global safety ratings for all INGLO-based models.
Why It Matters
So far, electric SUVs have found the most buyers in cities for their style and green credentials. The XEV 9S, however, takes a different approach; it's built for folks wanting an electric SUV for everyday duties, from city commutes to highway getaways.

By marrying Mahindra's tough SUV identity with modern electric vehicle technology, the XEV 9S promises a non-experimental, natural transition to electric.
Why Scream Electric?
Mahindra will unveil the XEV 9S on its "Scream Electric" event on November 27, where we'll get a clearer look at its design, interiors, and pricing. With the EV market heating up and buyers now constituting a big part of the audience, this could be Mahindra's most important launch since the XUV700.

If the pricing and real-world performance live up to expectations, the XEV 9S could well become India's first truly mainstream electric SUV, one that balances space, range, and practicality without breaking the Rs 30 lakh mark.
