Key Takeaways

  • In its full-wrap frontal collision test, the Fronx was driven straight into a barrier at 50 kmph to simulate a head-on crash. It earned a top Level 5 rating in this test.

  • Next, it went through the new offset frontal collision test, wherein the one half of the car’s front end strikes a moving obstruction at a speed of 50 kmph. In this test, the Fronx absorbed the impact well and kept the passenger compartment intact. It scored 21.08 out of 24 points for protection of the seated occupants, resulting in a 4 out of 5 rating.

  • The offset collision test also checks how much damage the car could cause to another vehicle in the event of a crash. The Fronx received a significant penalty here, scoring a negative -2.12 out of 5 points.

  • In the side impact test, where the car was hit from the side by a moving barrier at 55 kmph, the curtain airbags deployed effectively, which helped the Fronx score a Level-5 rating.

  • In the rear-end collision tests, both the driver and co-driver’s seats received a Level 4 out of 5 rating to protect occupants from a whiplash injury.

  • The Maruti Fronx was also tested for pedestrian safety, where it managed to get a Level 3/5 for pedestrian head protection and a full Level 5 for pedestrian leg protection.

  • The Fronx secured a perfect Level 5 rating for the Autonomous Emergency braking test, where it was tested for collision prevention against moving pedestrian dummies. It also scored full in the lane departure prevention system.

  • However, it got a Level 3 rating in the autonomous emergency braking system (intersection) test, and Level 4 score for high-performance headlights test and pedal misapplication prevention test.
