Update: Hyundai has launched the Aura at Rs 5.8 lakh (ex-showroom India). The sub-4m sedan is available with the 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engine options as well as the Venue's 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit. Read more about it here.

  • The next-gen Hyundai Xcent will be called the Aura.

  • It will share its platform and styling with the Grand i10 Nios.

  • It will get BS6-compliant 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines with an optional AMT.

  • It is expected to be priced between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9 lakh.

After much anticipation, Hyundai India has finally revealed that its upcoming sub-4m sedan will be called the Aura. The car in question will be based on the Grand i10 Nios and replace the ageing Hyundai Xcent. It has been spied testing on numerous occasions and is expected to make a debut in early 2020 or at the Auto Expo in February.

The Hyundai Aura will not just share its platform with the Grand i10 Nios but also feature a similar front end with Hyundai’s cascading grille flanked by LED DRLs and upswept headlamps. The images of the side profile so far have only revealed the newly designed dual-tone alloy wheels, which are likely to be 15-inch units. The rear half is expected to get C-shaped tail lamps with LED inserts. Its expected to bear the Aura nameplate bang in the middle of the bootlid in a fashion similar to the Venue and the Nios.

We are yet to get a glimpse of the interiors but expect the Aura to sport the same dual-tone layout as the Grand i10 Nios. The Aura will get more features than the current Xcent, with Hyundai likely to offer an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, wireless phone charger and rear AC vents in the top variants.

The Hyundai Aura is likely to be powered by the Nios’ 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines. Both engines are expected to be BS6-compliant at the time of launch. The 4-speed AT of the outgoing model will be replaced by a 5-speed AMT option.

Prices of the Hyundai Aura are likely to see a slight bump up and range between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9 lakh. Once launched, it will renew its rivalry with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor, Ford Aspire and the VW Ameo.
