Hyundai India aiming 5 lac domestic sales in near future

With an exciting 2014, Hyundai Motors India is now eyeing the sales of over 5 lac units in the domestic market. The Korean auto giant has already announced a slew of launches for the year 2015 for various segments. Company sold 4.11 lac units in the domestic market in 2014 and buoyed with the achievement, the firm aspires to bring in new customers to the Hyundai family.

Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, said "Our aspiration is to achieve the 5 lakh sales mark in the domestic market. The updated Verna would definitely play a significant role in achieving this milestone".

The new products from Hyundai India this year includes crossover version based on Elite i20 which will take on Volkswagen Polo Cross and Toyota Etios Cross in the segment. The carmaker is also planning to foray into compact SUV segment with ix25 that will compete with Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. Besides these, Hyundai will also launch updated version of Elantra and Sonata sedans in coming times.

Just a few days back, the automaker launched facelifted Verna at a price tag of INR 7.74 lac and company has high hopes from this model. Rakesh Srivastava also said that the domestic market will be on priority but at the same time, company would also like to retain 40 percent of the total export market of the country. The figure for exports in 2014 stood at 2.01 lac units.

On asking about adding a new manufacturing plant, HMIL Managing Director and CEO BS Seo said “We are closely looking at it now...it will depend on market situation”. Hyundai has current production capacity of 6.8 lac units which could be increased to 7 lac units/annum.
