The Hyundai Exter has entered the micro-SUV space with a starting price tag of Rs 6 lakh (introductory ex-showroom). It’s the most affordable SUV from Hyundai and is based on the Grand i10 Nios hatchback and slots below the Venue subcompact SUV. The Exter is available in six variants, priced up to Rs 10 lakh. With this price range, it overlaps several variants of the Grand i10 Nios and Venue. So, here’s a detailed variant-wise price comparison between the Exter, Grand i10 Nios, and Venue.   • The base-spec Grand i10 Nios Era undercuts the Exter EX by just Rs 26,000. Meanwhile, the Venue’s entry-level model is priced around Rs 2 lakh costlier than the hatchback.

  • All three models listed here are powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 83PS and 114Nm.

  • The subsequent variants of the Grand i10 Nios are better equipped than the similarly priced variants of the Exter. Its top end variant is only slightly more affordable than the mid-spec Exter SX, and the only feature advantage for the latter is that it gets a sunroof while missing out on other comforts.

  • The Venue’s base E variant is more affordable than the Exter SX MT and the top-spec Grand i10 Nios Asta.

  • It should be known that the Venue is a bigger SUV than the Exter, which is one of the key advantages. Between the two, it’s the Exter that offers more features than the Venue when it comes to their similarly priced variants.
  • The feature-rich SX (O) variant of the Exter undercuts the lower-spec S variant of the Venue.

2023 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

  • The Exter top-spec SX(O) Connect is more affordable than the Venue S(O) by a delta of around Rs 40,000 while offering features like a dual-camera dash cam, sunroof, wireless charger, alloy wheels and connected car technology.

  • For approximately Rs 1.1 lakh more than the top-spec Exter, the Hyundai Venue S(O) is available with a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine with the 6-speed iMT (manual without clutch pedal) putting out 120PS and 172Nm of performance.

  • The top-spec Venue petrol manual is around Rs 1.6 lakh costlier than the best-equipped Exter. It packs LED projector headlamps and bigger 16-inch alloys over the micro SUV, among other features.  Petrol AMT:

  • The entry-level AMT option for the Grand i10 Nios undercuts the entry-level Exter AMT by Rs 69,000. Even the Nios Sportz AMT undercuts the entry-level Exter S AMT by around Rs 18,000.

  • The Exter packs paddle shifters with its AMT variants over the Grand i10 Nios.

  • The top-spec Grand i10 Nios Asta AMT and Exter SX AMT are priced similarly, with the hatchback offering more features but lacks the sunroof offered by the SUV.

  • Hyundai does not offer the 1.2-litre petrol AMT option on the Venue. Instead, the only petrol automatic for the subcompact SUV is the turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch which also makes it the most expensive option here. While well-equipped, the S Turbo DCT is Rs 1.43 lakh more expensive than the top-spec Exter AMT.

The Grand i10 Nios and Exter also offer the option of a factory-fitted CNG. Here’s a price run down between them:

While the Grand i10 Nios CNG is more affordable in its base variant, the Sportz and Exter S variants are priced quite close. The SX CNG variant of the Exter, however, is around Rs 80,000 costlier, but features an electric sunroof additionally.

Hyundai Exter SX CNGThe prices for the Grand i10 Nios, Exter and Venue are structured similar to their size differences. You can have a well-equipped hatchback for less than the similar or better-equipped micro SUV but you’ll have to pay the most for the bigger and more premium subcompact SUV.
