GM Not to launch Opel in India General Motors, one of the biggest name in world of technologically advanced vehicles has decided not to launch its Opel brand in the Indian auto market. The industry rumors and speculations suggested the launch of Opel COTY 2009 Insignia will be the first one under the brand name Opel, but the speculations have been proved wrong. The brand is not new in Indian auto market and the earlier appearance led to huge failure on the Indian grounds. The Opel cars were too expensive and suffered from poor resale value.

The new model, Opel Insignia has been traced taking test driven in Bangalore many times but the test drives were not for specific India launch but was a part of GM’s global test program. The company has decided to keep the brand name Opel away from the Indian auto market which is due to the past bitter experiences faced by the company. General Motors India comes up with its cars in domestic market with brand name plate Chevrolet.

The brand name has been prominent on Indian grounds and it has also registered a good growth by its famous hatchback Chevrolet Beat and Chevrolet Spark. The models are proving good luck for the company through high end performance and superior response. Both the hatchbacks from General Motors have received much global recognition which further assures its reliability. The American auto group marked a hike of 60 per cent in the sales last year. Some reports claims that GM has marked a growth target for 2011 to 30 per cent. The company is now planning to add few more variants to its Indian portfolio. The American major has great plans to trap the growing markets buy launching some new car models in its portfolio by year 2012.
