GM bets on Enjoy MPV and Sail sedan; hopes to cross 1 lakh units in 2013
General Motors India has finally launched its much-awaited multi-purpose vehicles 'Enjoy' in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs. 5.49 lakh. The company hopes to cross one lakh car sales mark this year. The American auto maker also has Sail sedan, which has been doing decent business and already bagged 10,000 bookings, and now the firm has Enjoy MPV with aggressive pricing in the fast growing utility vehicle market.
GM India director sales Vikas Jain said that, " We are hopeful of one lakh car sales this year". He further added that the new utility vehicle is the third from GM's Chinese partnership with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC).
The company believes that the positioning of Enjoy and that of GM's iconic SUV Tavera are completely different. Officials said that the Tavera's success is mostly in the commercial segment, while the company will promote its Enjoy MPV as a family car. General Motors had sold only 92,000 units in 2012 as compared to 1.11 lakh units sold in 2011.
GM India's Vice President Sales Rajesh Singh said that it was expected that the industry will grow at 6-8 per cent this year, but the first four months trends suggest that the market could remain flat. However, the company has registered a 2.39 per cent increase in sales at 8,196 units in April 2013, thanks to Sail sedan.
Chevrolet Enjoy is launched in both petrol and diesel engine options, and is now available in a total 3 trims levels - LS, LT and LTZ with three diesel and three petrol models. The petrol version starts at a price of Rs. 5.49 lakh and goes upto Rs. 6.99 lakh, the diesel guise costs Rs. 6.69 lakh for base variant and Rs. 7.99 lakh for the top-of-the-line version.
