In case the new Honda City is out of your budget, you can still get the older-generation model with its new sub-10 lakh pricing

  • Fourth-gen Honda now priced between Rs 9.3 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.

  • Now offered in two variants and only with the petrol-manual powertrain.

  • The fourth-gen model is now more affordable by up to Rs 66,000.

  • It will continue to offer comforts like auto AC and a touchscreen infotainment system.

  • Fifth-gen City is priced between Rs 10.9 lakh and Rs 14.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

  • The range-topping fourth-gen City is more affordable than the entry-level fifth-gen model by Rs 90,000.

The Honda City compact sedan is currently available in both fourth and fifth-generation iterations. Its fourth-gen version now gets an updated variant list and a lower starting price. The older model will continue to be offered in just two variants with a single powertrain option.

The fourth-gen model is now offered in just two low-spec variants compared to before. It is only available with the 1.5-litre petrol engine (119PS/145Nm) mated to a 5-speed manual. Honda is no longer offering the older generation model with the CVT automatic option.

The new range-topping V variant will continue to offer comforts such as auto AC, touchscreen infotainment system, height-adjustable driver’s seat and power-folding ORVMs. With the loss of the higher-spec variants, the older City will no longer feature a sunroof, leather interior, LED headlamps as well as side and curtain airbags.

The fourth-gen City now makes more sense as an affordable alternative to the newer model as well as to its more economical rivals. In its top-spec, the fourth-gen City is cheaper than the entry-spec fifth-gen City by Rs 90,000. Both generations of the Honda City will continue to rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Toyota Yaris and Hyundai Verna.
