Ford Mustang In India: What We Know So Far

Numerous Hollywood movies, TV shows, music-videos appearances and the maximum number of fans on Facebook — the Mustang is a star in itself and is finally coming to India! 

The iconic Mustang, after almost half a century of existence, has finally got the steering wheel on the right-hand side. And that has helped the car to officially step into the right side of the Atlantic! Ford has made sure that there’s not a single spot left in the world that doesn’t get the Mustang! For the record, the pony car also got its maiden rear independent suspension with this generation. More than nine million Mustangs have been sold ever since the car first went on sale in 1964. The present, sixth-generation model is on a world tour, and India welcomed it at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will be launched next week on July 13, 2016. Now you must be intrigued about what the Indian avatar of the well-loved car will offer. Here’s a ready guide! 

Mustang GT Fastback 

Globally, it comes in fastback and convertible versions, but in India, we’ll be getting only the former. Besides the sportier Shelby avatars, Mustang comes with three engine options — 2.3-litre EcoBoost, 3.7-litre V6 and 5.0-litre V8. India will get the top-of-the-line, roaring 5.0-litre V8, which is only available in the GT versions.

• Comes with automatic HID headlamps with signature daytime running LEDs and three sequential bar taillights
• Rides on fat 255X40 cross-section tyres at the front and 275X40 cross-section at the rear; R19 aluminium alloys 
• Colour options include Oxford White, Ingot Silver, Triple Yellow Tri-Coat, Magnetic, Race Red, and Black  

Interior 

• Comes with Ford’s eight-inch SYNC 2 infotainment system co-developed with Microsoft, which comes with mobile integration, voice commands and climate controls; the unit also provides support for the rear-view camera (rear parking sensors also available) 
• Has MyFord Key, like the rest of the Fords in the country, which helps in limiting the speed, managing the stereo volume, and others; also has push-button engine start-stop and passive keyless entry  
• Dual-pot instrument cluster comes with chrome appliques and a 4.2-inch multi-information display 

• Other features include ambient lighting, automatic dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming interior rear-view mirrors, and others
• The electronically adjustable outside rear-view mirror comes with heating function and has a cool puddle projection lamp (galloping horse projection) 
• Seats are upholstered in leather and both the driver and the passenger seats are six-way power adjustable, providing power lumbar support as well 

Safety 

• Comes with dual front airbags, along with driver and passenger side and curtain airbags 
• It has Ford Advancetrac (traction control) with electronic stability control and anti-lock braking system 
• Also has tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS)

Prices 

The Mustang has legions of fans around the globe, including enthusiasts in India, and the American automaker is well aware of this. Ford is likely to price the Mustang aggressively and we expect it to be priced in the vicinity of 70 lakh. The Mustang will be a CBU (completely built unit) import from Ford's Flat Rock assembly plant in the USA.
