Mustang highlights

July 21, 2017: Euro NCAP has reassessed the Ford Mustang for passenger safety and has upped the overall safety of the car from two to three stars. Compare the two crash test results and you’ll notice that the adult and child occupant safety, at 72 per cent and 32 per cent respectively, is exactly the same. But from July 2017 onwards, customers will get an upgraded safety package in the car which includes Pre Collision Assist (with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking) and Lane Keeping Aid. Thanks to these safety systems, the pedestrian and safety assist scores have jumped from 64 per cent and 16 per cent to 78 per cent and 61 per cent respectively. Ford made no changes to the car’s structure and the rest of it remains exactly the same.

Ford had launched the much anticipated Mustang at an introductory price of Rs 65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in India last year. The muscle car features a 5.0-litre, Ti-VCT V8 engine which churns out 401PS of power and 515Nm of torque. This potent engine is mated to a 6-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox. This power is enough for the driver to have his moment of fame in any street light drag or the occasional visit to the racing circuit. Features include four selectable drive modes (normal, sport, sport+ and snow/wet), electronic line-lock (a tech aid to help pull off a clean burnout), electronic stability control (ESC) and traction control. You also get a touchscreen infotainment system, Ford MyKey, keyless entry and a push-button start/stop system. Ford has announced that a Hybrid variant of the Mustang is in works and will make its debut in 2020. Meanwhile, Ford has gone ahead and revealed the updated Mustang. The new car features a sleeker design, full-LED front lighting, a 10-speed automatic gearbox, adaptive dampers and more.

As I move down my memory lane of driving this phenomenal beast I was about 19 years old. Yes Mustangs are cars which have marked their existence in car industry. I has a heavy engine, which is not fuel efficient but, produces a heavy thrust. The version currently offered by Ford are: 2.3 L EcoBoost 310 hp four-cylinder, 3.7 L 300 hp V6 and 5.0 L Coyote 435 hp V8. The V8 is offered in six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. For mustang lovers the roaring sound o... 5

The most iconic car of ford is mustang. the powerful v8 engine make it a flying jet on the road.the classic look and extra ordinary design make this car a icon of car industry. the most awesome thing about this car is the power which is unbeatable.the comfort of this car make you feel like driving a rocket or a jet. Ford Mustang's Select Shift gives you the thrill of using a manual transmission with the ease of an automatic. Simply toggle the race car-inspired Paddle Shifters on the steering... 0

Ford Mustang review

Think of any sports/performance/supercar in India and the first thing that comes to mind is speed, acceleration that makes you scream in excitement, and, of course, their hefty asking price. However, one question that many people ask is, can you actually live with one of these cars in India? Enter the Ford Mustang, a fast car that sells more in the USA than the Honda City does in India.

The Mustang is an icon, a machine that invites envy, but most importantly, a performance car that people use every day. So we spent around a week with the pony car, taking it on a family road trip, driving it through broken semi-urban roads and through crawling city traffic to see if that nature holds up in India.

Things We Like in Mustang

  • Engine can run on regular fuel. Usage isn’t limited by the requirement of high-octane petrol, which isn’t easily available in India.
  • The 401PS/515Nm 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 makes it the most powerful new car you can buy at its price.
  • Muscular design, iconic nameplate and large size make this one of the most attention grabbing cars on the road.
  • Ride quality is comfortable for a performance car. 137mm ground clearance is also good for a car in this segment and it can get past most big speed breakers/bad roads without scraping the underbelly.

Things We Don't Like in Mustang

  • Comes with Ford’s SYNC 2 infotainment unit, while the less expensive Endeavour gets the latest SYNC 3 unit with support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • Interior quality isn’t as good as similarly priced German luxury sedans.
  • Six-speed automatic gearbox works well while cruising, but isn’t responsive enough for sporty driving. No manual gearbox option offered in India either.

Stand Out Features

  • Ford offers segment-best 19-inch alloy wheels on the Mustang

  • Quickest accelerating car in its segment – 0-100kmph in less than five seconds

CarDekho Verdict

The Mustang is all about taking you back to a simpler time. It reminds you of your bedroom wall poster, your toy cars, and is the most affordable new car you can buy in India with a V8 engine.

"With its price in India, it loses its placement as an affordable performance car, but that money buys you something special"

; it buys you an icon, a statement like no other and most importantly, a car that can make you feel like a kid again.
