FCA Issues Voluntary Recall For Jeep Compass
The carmaker will replace the passenger airbag free of cost
Yesterday, American carmaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, issued a statement in its home country urging 2018 Jeep Compass owners to not use the front passenger seat until the airbag is replaced. A recall has also been issued in the US for Jeep Compass SUVs manufactured between September 5 and November 19.
FCA's Indian wing is also proactively recalling the Jeep Compass to get the passenger airbag replaced. According to one of its suppliers, loose fasteners might have accidentally found their way into the airbag assembly module. Should the airbag deploy in the event of a collision, it could potentially throw out those fasteners at breakneck speeds. FCA India hasn't received any complaints of injuries relating to this issue, but to keep its customers on the safe side, the carmaker will replace the passenger airbag nonetheless. Less than 1 per cent of the roughly 1,200 Jeep Compass SUVs rolled out during the specified period are said to be affected by the issue.
Compass owners are advised to refrain from using the front passenger seat until the problem is rectified. If you have a Jeep Compass, then you can reach out to an FCA dealer or contact the support team to see if your vehicle falls in the potentially affected lot. FCA will also reach out to the owners if their Compass needs to get the airbag replaced. The job will be carried out at authorised workshops at the carmaker's expense.
