Datsun is about to launch its latest offering in India, the redi-Go. Desperate to make an impact and enjoy a piece of the highest selling pie in the country, the redi-Go will enter the entry level car segment and will lock horns with well-established cars like the Renault Kwid and the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800. It shares a few important bits with the Kwid like the 800cc engine and the underpinnings but, other than this, it is an all-new car. Let's have a closer look at the Datsun redi-Go images to have a closer look to its design in this detailed gallery.

Exteriors

Datsun has kept the design of the redi-Go quite close to the concept unveiled four years ago at the Auto Expo. It is a whole new design in the segment with sharp lines and a tall body. The front of the car is dominated by the big hexagonal grille, a signature of the brand in the country. The headlamps are wrap-around units and look stylish with chrome inserts.

The biggest plus in the front profile are the LED DRLs, sitting low on the bumper. This is a unique feature in this segment but the poorly left open housing above them makes the car look incomplete or damaged. Some body-coloured caps would have been really nice. The bottom most part of the bumper is done in black, which adds a nice contrast to the overall good looking profile.

Moving on to the side, the car gets a tall body stance and an unmistakable look. Sharp lines follow the taillamps into the side profile which gives it a very subjective styling. It won't please many but the ones who indeed like it will be crazy for it. The tail lamp makes a nice ‘V’ shape with the roof and body line which looks even better when the tail light is lit up at night.

The rear of the car is subtle yet distinctive. The glass is placed quite high along with the tail lamps. There is even a chrome strip at the base of the boot gate to add a classic touch. The bumper is big and the car sits quite high off the ground, which is evident in the rear profile.

Interiors

The dashboard is an all-new unit with many places to store your knick-knacks. The audio unit is placed in the centre and the AC controls are a little offset to the right. What's odd is the single round AC vent which looks out of place. The steering is a simple three-spoke unit and the instrument cluster is a singular analog speedometer dial surrounded by warning lights.

Step inside, and the car is surprisingly spacious. The light green contrast on the seat fabric adds to the airiness of the cabin. Even the dashboard’s colour has been kept light to match the fabric. What's unique about the insides of the car are the body colour panels visible on various places. This has been done as an extreme measure of cost cutting and you will either love it or hate it. These are visible through the door panels and the B and C pillars.

Design Verdict

The redi-Go brings a refreshingly new design language in the segment of boring hatchbacks. Although the tall-boy stance is not appreciated by everyone, the redi-Go manages to do a fine job and look aesthetically pleasing. The dashboard design is boring and looks out of place, but the space and practicality of the cabin overshadow the design elements. We really hope Datsun covers the front fog lamp hubs and the naked B and C pillars inside the car because, other than that, the car pulls off a smart look.
