Chevrolet Sonic to hit Indian shores by 2012
Chevrolet Sonic, the long awaited new generation car model of Chevrolet Aveo for the US has been introduced in North American and Mexico auto markets. The new launched model identifies the Chevrolet Beat sold in the Indian auto market but with few cosmetic changes. The new car model ensures good performance in the American auto markets. Currently no updates have been given on whether Chevrolet Sonic launch will benefit India.
Chris Perry, Vice President of Marketing in Chevrolet US said that the all new Chevrolet Sonic signifies a new start for Chevrolet in the small car segment in the US and so the auto giants felt like to christen the small car with a new name.
The auto makers have not yet revealed the car's engine and other details. However it is believed that Chevrolet Sonic will be affixed with various engine options which consist of 1.2 litre petro engine capable of churning power of 115 hp. The diesel version of Chevrolet Sonic is being speculated to carry 1.3 litre diesel mill which can produce a maximum power of 75 hp and 95 hp.
Chevrolet back home is planning to launch a newer version of its entry level saloon Chevrolet Aveo. The new model is being developed for a better and advanced technology which will be affixed in the new sedan. One one hand, rumours suggest that the new reworked sedan model will be renamed as Chevrolet Sonic and may enter in the Indian auto market by 2012, on the other, it is being heard that the new car would simply come as a new variant in the Chevrolet Aveo series without any change in its name.
