BMW two litre petrol engine unveiled

For those who wait for new wonders from the expertise of German manufacturer, here is the all exclusive turbocharged four-cylinder 2 litre petrol engine. The engine has been rumored for a long time in the world of cars but now the final revealing of this striking technology from company officials have put an end to all.

This latest technology four cylinder engine is to replace the BMW's famous 3.0-liter straight-six engine which is seen in few models in Indian portfolio of the company. The new engine from company's stable is expected to appear in many new models to enter the Indian shores as well. For now the company has refused to make any official statement on the details of this engine technology but the speculations say that it will be coded as N20 for the BMW 1-series, BMW X3, BMW Z4 roadster and also the 5-series of BMW.

With this new engine codenamed as N20, the company has first time introduced a four-cylinder petrol powerterrain. The engine will be used with the company's TwinPower Turbo technology. The engine will be based on the latest edition of BMW's VALVETRONIC variable valve control system which is patent to the company along with technologies like direct injection which increases the fuel efficiency, twin-scroll turbocharging system and all-aluminum crankcase. Thus we find all latest high end technologies imbibed in the engine.

The displacement offered by this new 4 cylinder engine is 2 litre and is capable of churning out a max power of 245 Bhp @ 5000 rpm and top torque of 35.6 kg/m @ 1,250 rpm. The new engine is built to give better performance in terms of fuel efficiency and emission control as against the 6 cylinder engines.

The employment of this engine will be done in the BMW X1 xDrive 28i variant for the first time and the global appearance will be made in the month of March at Geneva Salon followed by worldwide sale.
