    • BMW has hiked the prices of the 3 Series by up to Rs 60,000.

    • It received a mild variant rejig earlier in the year but it is now available in four variants.

    • The Sport trim gets three-zone climate control, sunroof and tyre pressure monitoring system.

    • New 320d Sport trim is only Rs 40,000 pricier than the entry-level petrol option.

    • The BMW 3 Series rivals the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Jaguar XE.

BMW launched the seventh-gen 3 Series in India in August 2019. It was first offered in three variants: 320d Sport, 320d Luxury Line, and 330i M Sport. In March 2020, it introduced the 330i Sport entry-level option but discontinued the entry-level diesel trim. But the carmaker has now reintroduced the more affordable diesel variant of the sedan. Here’s a look at the revised variant lineup along with their prices:

The reintroduction of the 320d Sport makes the diesel-powered variants of the sedan cheaper by Rs 5.40 lakh than the fully-loaded 320d Luxury Line diesel variant. BMW has hiked the 3 Series’ prices by up to Rs 60,000 for 2020.

The diesel engine in question that is now offered in two variants, 320d Sport and 320d Luxury Line, is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder motor that produces 190PS and 400Nm while mated to an 8-speed steptronic automatic transmission. In typical BMW fashion, power is sent to the rear wheels only and the 320d Sport comes with four driving modes: Comfort, Ecopro, Sport and Sport+. BMW claims the diesel variants of the 3 Series can return 20.37kmpl.

While the feature list of the 320d Sport and Luxury Line is almost similar, being an entry-spec diesel variant, the former loses out on some equipment. This includes the bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay connectivity, ambient lighting, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Having said that, it does get an 8.8-inch touchscreen central display,  three-zone climate control with rear AC vents, a rearview camera, 17-inch alloy wheels, tyre pressure monitoring system, and a sunroof.

The 3 Series takes on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Jaguar XE.
