2026 BMW i5 LWB Revealed! First Locally Produced Electric Sedan From BMW
The i5 LWB electric sedan offers a spacious backseat and has a claimed range of up to 669 km
BMW India has revealed the i5 LWB, the electric version of its 5-series sedan. The i5 LWB (Long Wheelbase) boasts a stunning design with the signature BMW Kidney Grille at the front, which is closed off, being an electric sedan. This also has a luxurious-looking stance in profile with a large set of alloy wheels.
The BMW i5 LWB was revealed alongside the X1 LWB, which is the entry-level luxury SUV of BMW. So, let’s dive deeper into what the driver-focused sedan has to offer with an LWB version:
Design
-
Looking at the front, the i5 LWB has the iconic BMW nose with an illuminated kidney-grille design upfront with vertical chrome slats.
-
It has aggressive-looking LED headlamps, which have LED DRLs integrated into them as well. It also has a sculpted front bumper, which has an air dam present lower down, and also has Titanium Bronze inserts on the bumper as well as the grille.
-
In profile, the i5 LWB, as its name suggests, has a longer wheelbase compared to the standard i5 sold globally, although its elongated proportions still look classy.
-
Other design elements include an chrome window line rising towards the rear end with the number 5 embossed behind the rear window, flat flap-type door handles, and a sporty set of alloy wheels.
-
At the rear, it has a sleek look with the slim LED taillamps, a faux diffuser, and a blue ring around the BMW logo to denote its all-electric origins.
-
The sporty-looking rear bumper also has Titanium Bronze accents, adding a touch of contrast for a special look.
Interior
-
Looking at the interior, it has a similar design to the petrol-powered 5-series sedan, with a twin-display setup, a textured look over the dashboard, and a flat-bottom steering wheel.
-
It also has brown-coloured leatherette seat upholstery, which enhances the chauffeur-driven experience, as well as added legroom at the rear.
-
At the rear, which is the highlight of the i5 LWB, it has much more legroom than the standard wheelbase i5 with pamperings such as an extra cushion over the headrest, rear entertainment screens, individual climate control, as well as the premium Bowers and Wilkins surround sound system.

CarDekho Says….
The BMW i5 LWB has stunning looks with a sharper-looking front, signature BMW grille, long-sweeping wheelbase, and spacious legroom in the back seat. With a large 81.6 kWh battery and offering a claimed range up to 669 km, it will make your business trips across the cities quite comfortable.
This electric sedan could just be a game changer for BMW, as it is going to tackle the segment leader, the Mercedes E-Class LWB, by also offering a spacious rear seat with ample legroom, backseat entertainment screens, and individual climate zones. While the E-class LWB doesn’t yet have an electric avatar for this segment, the Japanese luxury sedan Lexus ES500e is standing ahead of the BMW.
