  • Spotted testing in Europe, it could be revealed at Geneva Motor Show next year.

  • Feature and powertrain upgrades should be in line with the Superb facelift.

  • India launch expected later next year or early 2021.

The Skoda Kodiaq was the first to kick-off the new SUV revolution for the Czech carmaker, with the Kamiq and Karoq slotting in below the big SUV. However, the SUV has completed half of its lifecycle and a facelift has been spotted testing, covered in light camouflage.

In terms of changes, Skoda seems to have tinkered with the design of the bumpers. This is reaffirmed by the fact that only the front fascia and rear of the Kodiaq were covered with camouflage. Skoda is also expected to introduce Matrix LED headlamps and more LED elements in the tail lamp. The Matrix LED headlamps were first introduced in Skoda’s lineup on the Superb facelift, which was revealed over a month ago, and will to come to India in mid-2020.

Skoda could also look to introduce a plug-in hybrid version of the Kodiaq with the facelift, just like it has done with the Superb. The hybrid powertrain is supposed to be the same as the Superb’s - a 1.4-litre TSI motor that makes 156PS and an electric motor that is good for 115PS. A 6-speed DSG is expected to handle transmission duties.

The SUV was spotted in Europe, which leads us to believe that it won’t be coming to India this year. Skoda will look to reveal it at one of the international motor shows like in Geneva next year, before introducing it in our market. It is expected to enter the Indian market later next year or by early 2021.

The Kodiaq in its current guise retails for Rs 35.36 lakh (ex-showroom India). This is the price for the base Style variant and the more expensive LK edition goes for Rs 36.77 lakh (ex-showroom India). We don’t expect Skoda to raise the price of the SUV by more than Rs 50,000, however, if Skoda decided to bring the hybrid variant to India, it could be priced at a premium of Rs 2-3 lakh over the current Kodiaq.
