Hyundai will be offering the new Elantra with a BS6-compliant 2.0-litre petrol engine only and has ditched the 1.6-litre diesel motor. The petrol unit produces 152PS of power and 192Nm of peak torque while mated to a 6-speed manual with the choice of a 6-speed automatic. The ARAI-certified fuel efficiency has been rated at 14.6kmpl for both powertrains. Hyundai may decide to offer a diesel variant at a later date. We expect it to be powered by the 1.5-litre motor from the Kia Seltos.

In terms of design and styling, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra features many changes on the exterior. The redesigned front end shows the latest cascading grille design with new, sportier quad-projector headlamps. Even the rear end has been restyled with new tail lamps too. It looks quite similar from the side profile but the new Elantra is longer in length while the rest of the dimensions are the same as the pre-facelift model.

The Elantra is well equipped in terms of features and is the latest Hyundai to be equipped with the carmaker’s BlueLink connected car technology first seen on the Venue. It also gets ventilated front seats, a wireless charging pad, an electric sunroof, dual zone auto AC, a 10-way power adjustable driver seat and auto cruise control. Hyundai has also fitted it with a new colour multi-information display but it still gets analogue dials.

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra offers six airbags as standard which used to be available only on the top-end variant. It still gets ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchorage and seatbelt reminders as standard. Hyundai also offers the updated Elantra with a tyre pressure monitoring system, front parking sensors, parking camera, electronic stability control, hill assist, and front and rear defogger.

Hyundai is offering the Elantra facelift with a 3-year/unlimited kilometre warranty and road-side assistance along with 3-year/30,000km free maintenance and a 3-year BlueLink subscription.

The Hyundai Elantra continues to compete against the likes of the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis and Honda Civic.
