Here’s a list of affordable cars in India that get a child seat provision

Parents/grandparents in India are often faced with a dilemma when it comes to buying a car. While the criteria of space, efficiency, features and reliability remain, there’s one small need that makes a big difference in a purchase decision – provision for child seats or a child restraint system (CRS).

While this isn’t a feature that’s very complicated to include, and was supposed to be mandatory from 2014, not every car gets it.

Don’t worry, though, for we have the list of options right here:

Mahindra e2oPlus (Rs 5.46-8.46 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi)

The e2oPlus gets ISOFIX child seat mounts on all variants and is the only electric car on this list! The zero-emission car uses 3-phase AC induction motors developing 41PS and 91Nm. What's more is that it gets a 2-speed direct drive automatic transmission and manages a travel range of 140km.

Safety Features Include: Hill-hold assist

Toyota Etios Series (Rs 5.64-8.98 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi)

Every car in the Toyota Etios series, including the Etios Liva, Etios Cross and Etios Platinum, gets the provision to mount child seats. The Liva and Cross are offered with 1.2-litre petrol (80PS/104Nm) and 1.4-litre diesel (68PS/170Nm) engines, while the Etios Cross also gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine that makes 90PS and 132Nm. The Platinum only gets the 1.5-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engines, and all powerplants come paired with five-speed manual gearboxes.

Safety Features Include: Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and front pretensioner + force-limiter seatbelts

Mahindra KUV100 (Rs 6.14-7.11 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, for the top-end K8 grade)

Mahindra’s first hatchback, the KUV100, does get ISOFIX child seat mounts on the rear seat, though the feature is limited to the range-topping K8 variant. The car is offered with 1.2-litre petrol (83PS/115Nm) and diesel (78PS/190Nm) engines, both offered with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Safety Features Include: Dual front airbags and ABS with EBD

Mahindra TUV300 (Rs 7.74-9.74 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, for the T4+ and above)

The ‘tough utility vehicle’ wasn’t available with this feature at first, but when the more powerful TUV300 mHawk100 was introduced, all variants except the T4 and T6 received ISOFIX child seat mounts in the second row. The compact SUV is offered only with a 1.5-litre diesel engine (80-100PS/230-240Nm) that’s available with a five-speed manual and a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

Safety Features Include: Dual front airbags and ABS with EBD

Honda City (Rs 8.22-12.55 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi)

The Honda City gets rear seat ISOFIX and a top tether anchor as standard on all variants. It’s offered with 1.5-litre petrol (119PS/145Nm) and diesel (100PS/200Nm) engines. Safety Features Include: Dual front airbags and ABS with EBD

Ford EcoSport (Rs 8.70-9.82 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, for the Titanium grade and above)

Ford's EcoSport available with ISOFIX on the Titanium variant and above. The Titanium gets 1.5-litre petrol (112PS/140Nm) and diesel (100PS/205Nm) engines. The range-topping Titanium+ can be had with the 1.5-litre diesel or the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol mill (125PS/170Nm), both with five-speed manual gearboxes.

Safety Features Include: Up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and emergency assist. Emergency brake assist (EBA), electronic stability control (ESC), traction control (TCS) and hill-launch assist (HLA) exclusive to automatic variant.

Hyundai Creta (Rs 12.94-14.57 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, for the SX+ automatic variants)

Only the SX+ AT variant of the Hyundai Creta gets a child seat anchor and, oddly, the feature has been skipped on higher variants! The Creta SX+ can be had with 1.6-litre petrol (123PS/151Nm) and diesel (128PS/260Nm) engines, paired with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, though only the latter gets child seat facility.

The Corolla Altis is available with a 1.8-litre petrol engine (140PS/173Nm) that can be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic, along with a 1.4-litre diesel (88PS/205Nm) that only gets a six-speed manual transmission.

Safety Features Include: Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist and vehicle stability control.

Chevrolet Cruze (Rs 13.95-17.46 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi)

A popular enthusiast sedan, though not very popular on the sales charts, the Chevrolet Cruze gets a provision for child seats as standard on both the LT and LTZ variants. The sedan is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 166PS and 360Nm, and can be had with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

The Tucson gets CRS as standard on all variants, but only the base manual petrol variant falls below the Rs 20 lakh price bracket. The Tucson is offered with 2.0-litre petrol (155PS/192Nm) and diesel (185PS/400Nm) engines, both offered with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
