Limited production capacity and overwhelming consumer demand has resulted in long waiting period for some of the most popular car models on sale in India today. Now, it seems like Mahindra is all set to address this situation, which is plaguing its highly coveted model, the KUV100 micro-SUV. Mahindra will soon increase the production of its facility to 8,500 units per month from the current count of 5500 units, over the course of coming months, which will substantially reduce the over all waiting period of the six-seater. A CNG-powered test mule was recently spotted testing in Maharashtra. It is targeted to capture the semi urban areas in the country. Mahindra is expected to launch it in India by mid-2017.
I recently bought the Mahindra KUV100 after much deliberation between the jazz and the baleno as other options. I must be very honest when i say that i opted for the car predominantly for its lesser waiting time. That apart, the car itself was an amazingly pleasant surprise. It is a mini beast with the mFalcon diesel engine which gives the upwardly mobile urban class the SUV experience while also keeping in mind the space crunch of the city. The upright seating, the amazing and brutish front cou read more 55

Mahindra KUV100 has highly peculiar and rugged looks considering it is a part of the hatchback segment. The car looks like a proper SUV from the front and it will come as a shock to many that such a powerful looking vehicle is an compact hatchback actually. In profile, you?ll notice the brow that stretches into the front door. The Mahindra stands 1,655mm tall, and sits 170mm off the ground. The rear doors handles are mounted next to the window la the Chevrolet Beat. It?s all tastefully done, read more 17
‘Mahindra’ is a term synonymous with a couple of things. One, large brutes with go-anywhere capabilities. The weapon of choice to take on the toughest roads in the world. Your body just might give up on the way there but a Mahindra will putter through to the top. The other, government and service sector vehicles. Look around you, everything from the escort vehicles for convoys to police interceptors and all the way up to ambulances and defence vehicles are Thars, Scorpios and Boleros in various avatars.
However, the need for a strong contender to take on fast moving hatchback space remained. Enter, the KUV100. A hatchback wearing the clothes of an SUV, offering the benefits of a small car while staying true to Mahindra’s core DNA.
Mahindra has launched the KUV1OO to squarely target younger buyers. It comes with some unique traits, while offering most of the must-have features in this segment. Has Mahindra got the formula right? We find out!

Feature loaded: Daytime running lights, chilled glovebox, integrated music system with steering mounted controls and ambient lights etc.
Things We Don't Like in KUV100
Skinny tyres don''t offer much grip. Can get scary in a fast corner or under hard braking.
Seats have a relatively hard compound and do not offer a lot of support. Fixed headrests on the 3+3 seating configuration variant.
NVH (Noise Vibration and Harshness) levels are higher than the immediate competition (Grand i10/Swift) - especially in the diesel variant.
Stand Out Features
First in segment - optional six seater variant. Bench seats on the front can accommodate 3 people.
Electronic start/stop system helps save fuel.
Mahindra's Blue Sense App. Gives access to audio controls, vehicle information such as the fuel level with the travel range, parking lamp status, door open warning and an organizer - all on your smartphone.
The KUV100 is a job-well done by the boffins at Mahindra. it isn’t a car for the well-groomed salt and pepper haired gentleman. It’s for his 18 year old who has a crazy streak and a lot of friends. The quirky styling and the six seater arrangement are unheard of in this segment. It offers a good list of features, unique styling elements and stands out from the crowd.
"The 'Kool Utility Vehicle' is an interesting take at a compact hatch and that should get it a lot of takers!"
If you want sensible hatchback - there’s always the Grand i10 and the Swift to check out as well.
I'll start off with a small disclosure - I really like attending Mahindra press conferences and events for there always is one thing in common - passion. Be it the conglomerate backing a startup SmartShift, to the drive of the TUV3OO around Mahindra?s production facility or even Mahindra?s new pick-up; the Imperio - the zeal and zest of the head honchos remains constant. I admire that commitment towards innovation. Now, Mahindra say that the KUV is the outcome of 4 years worth of blood, sweat and tears of over 350 employees. A total of 1200 Crores were pumped into developing the KUV100 that includes an all-new design, two new engines and a new transmission. Talk about being frugal about your money! The KUV100 is a SUV in Mahindra?s books. Is it really one? Let?s find out!
