Tata Xenon Facelift Launch Likely In January 2017

The 2.2-litre engine could be offered in the 400Nm tune

The Tata Xenon has been long-overdue for an update. With the arrival of the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, the lifestyle pickup segment now has a very formidable contender, making life all the more difficult for Tata’s pickup. Fortunately, the face-lifted Xenon is on its way and sources tell us the model could be introduced in January 2017.

The refreshed Xenon has already been spotted testing and while the changes to the exterior won’t be extensive, it is expected to get updates to the powertrain. The engine is still going to be the same 2.2-litre diesel unit, but it will most likely be up-tuned to produce around 156PS of power and 400Nm of torque. What’s more, is that it is likely to get the option of a 6-speed automatic gearbox which would be shared with the Tata Hexa.

It has also been learnt that a single-cab variant could be introduced at first, with the price expected to hover around the Rs 8 lakh mark. Currently, the double-cab Xenon XT is priced at Rs 9.96 lakh for the 4x2 variant and Rs 11 lakh for the 4x4 version (both prices ex-showroom Delhi).

Other changes include a new front grille with a single, body-coloured slat and an updated front bumper. Apart from the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, the updated Xenon will also go up against the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway facelift. While the new-gen Scorpio SUV itself was introduced back in 2014, the Getaway pickup is a generation behind.
