Buoyed by the success of its first product in India, the Hector, MG Motor will be amping up production at its Halol manufacturing facility in Gujarat to meet the increased demand. MG Motor will be running a second shift starting today and cut down on the waiting period, which had shot up to 6 months.
The British carmaker shipped close to 3,600 units of the SUV in October. So the average production is less than 4,000 units a month, but this number is set to increase with the additional shift.
MG Motor had even started offering accessories to the buyers who had to wait for a long time to get their hands on the Hector under its ‘Worth Waiting For’ campaign. These accessories command an official warranty of one year. MG Motor had to stop accepting new bookings within just a month of the Hector’s launch in June, reopening it only recently on September 29.
With the reopening of bookings, MG also took the opportunity to raise the prices of the Hector in the range of Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000. The current prices of the mid-size SUV range between Rs 12.48 lakh and Rs 17.28 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Since it runs on a set of BS4 engines, these prices are likely to increase when MG introduces the BS6 version of the Hector.
