Maruti Suzuki Ignis Gets 3 Stars In Euro-NCAP Test
After the news of the Tata Zest getting a 4-star rating in crash tests, we hear that the upcoming Suzuki Ignis has scored 3 stars in the European NCAP crash tests.
European spec-Ignis scores 3 stars with the standard trim, while bagging 5 stars with the optional safety pack
After the news of the Tata Zest getting a 4-star rating in crash tests, we hear that the upcoming Suzuki Ignis has scored 3 stars in the European NCAP crash tests. However, the model tested was the European-spec Ignis and the Indian version is highly unlikely to feature the standard six airbags of the Euro model. With the safety pack on, the Ignis managed to score a full five stars, thanks to the six airbags and Dual Camera Brake Support (DCBS) it was accompanied with.
Since safety laws aren’t very strict and the demand for budget cars is high in India, carmakers here generally refrain from equipping cars with enough protective gadgets, which adds to the overall cost of the vehicle. And, given that most of the popular cars from Maruti Suzuki – like the Swift and the Alto – failed to get even a single star in the crash test conducted earlier this year, the carmaker could think of arming the Ignis with adequate safety features.
The trims of the Ignis that were put to the test were equipped with dual front airbags, besides side head, chest and pelvis airbags. The standard variant had ISOFIX, seatbelt reminder and airbag cut-off switch. On the other hand, the version with optional safety kit came fitted with AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) for city and inter-urban transport, radar-assisted braking, lane assist system and pedestrian safety system.
Showcased at this year’s New Delhi Auto Expo, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be launching in India by January next year. It will be retailed through Nexa dealerships – the premium dealer outlets of Maruti Suzuki – and the Ignis price in India is likely to be relatively premium.
